It has been a goal of mine for many years to start a blog! So, here we are! I have not really wanted to start this blog for anything other than documenting for myself and our children our lives and the Lord's working in us and through us! We're going on 34 years of marriage and sometimes I find myself not remembering events in our lives as much as I would like to remember. So, that right there is the motivation for my writings.
You may ask why the title "So Many New Adventures"? The Alfrey family found ourselves in an interesting position this past summer. All five of us were in transition in the area of employment! Our son-in-law was the only one of us that was not changing jobs during the summer of 2019. Eric and I were changing locations and jobs in our move from Singapore to Lima, Peru; Hannah Beth was finishing nursing school and taking her first RN job at a new hospital; Abby was starting a new job at a doctor's office and Ethan was hired with United Airlines as a flight attendant. So, all 5 of us were either in between jobs or waiting to start a new job. Transition was the theme for the summer of 2019. We told Daniel (our son-in-law) that we were glad that he was stable and had a job! :)
Let me give you a little bit of history. We have been overseas with the ministry of Network of International Christian Schools (NICS) three different times. During the 5 years from 2002 to 2007 we were in China at Kunming International Academy and from 2016 to 2019 we were in Singapore at International Community School and we are now beginning at our third school in Lima, Peru at International Christian School. During our time in all three places it has been a great experience and blessing to be able to see what God is doing around the world and especially in the area of Christian education. What an amazing adventure it has been and continues to be. We have enjoyed getting to know people from all over the world and serving with many people that we are better for having known them. Have they all been easy places to serve - I would say no but, we have learned and grown so much from these opportunities. I'll write about each of these places further in another post but, you may be asking how did you end up in Peru? I can honestly say that Lima, Peru was never on our radar or list of places that we would go. Obviously it was on God's radar because here we are. When we found out that we were leaving Singapore we started the task of sending out resumes and looking for employment. Eric sent resumes to more places than we wanted to count and began the arduous task ahead. We looked at schools in the states and some overseas and when the opportunity to go to Peru came up we felt that the Lord was opening the door for us to go. Eric is the director of the school and I don't have an official position with the school because all the elementary positions had been filled when we decided to accept the job for Eric. However, I fill my time with volunteering at the school and substituting when needed. I also work with our online school - Northstar Academy helping Eric with the Bible classes that he teaches and writing curriculum. I have not been out of the regular classroom for the last 22 years so this is a definite change of pace. It's a good change for a year or so and it will give me a chance to do some things that I have not had the time to do for a long time.
If you made it this far in the reading thank you for sticking with me. I hope that I can give you a little glimpse into our life in Lima, Peru. But, for now - Adios!
